Teaching Experience #4: Online Classes

15 April 2020

 [English Year 6 Online Class]

The thought of MCO period being extended is still haunting us (yes, by “us” I also mean the teachers) until today. Panic attack happens from time to time whenever we think about how are we going to save our students i.e the ones taking Big Exams this year.
Alhamdulillah today’s first Online Class went great! We used Google Hangout and managed to share my screen so that the kids can see the questions physically and they can easily follow up with Grammar Lessons. I am using Google Classroom for my Year 1 students (for parents to
print out worksheets) and Google Hangout for Year 6 students.
Honestly speaking, Online Classes or Teaching and Learning from home is not easy. There’s so
many possible factors that hinders an effective and efficient teaching and learning session. Technology wise, poor internet connection and gadgets-that-are-lacking-in-many-ways of those who come from poor in-come family. Environmental wise, the noises around the teaching and learning session can be quite disturbing. Time wise, teachers have to consider the schedule of the students’ parents who go to work and the ones that are present with their child at home. Teachers also have to arrange their schedule with their own family at home especially those who have kids. Possibly, they have to cook, clean and manage the household. You see? It is hard for both teachers and parents. This reminds me of the debate (read: accusation) about teachers not doing their work at home is very unreasonable, isn’t it?
I am able to say this (although I am not married yet
and not managing the house much) because I too suffer from the anxiety and stress of thinking, compiling, arranging and creating exercises and lessons for the students. Everyday, I have to think of something that can make sure my UPSR students can improve their English. Everyday, I have to plan on effective and fun lessons for my Year 1 students. Not to forget, kuddos to the Class Teachers who have extra job that is to remind other subjects teachers to give out lessons to their class.
Walawei! 😂
Anyways, to all the teachers and parents at home, let us all work on this together okay? Do more
open discussions about ways on how we can have effective teaching and learning session through out this MCO period. Parents, please support your children at home, be present with them when they are doing their exercises/homework. Teachers, stay strong teaching from home, don’t give to many homeworks please otherwise the parents are the ones getting all stressed out. 😅😂
✌🏼
P/s: I found out an awkward truth through today’s class that is I’m teaching my teacher’s son all this while. 😂

Sumpitan Glamping, Lenggong, Perak

Assalamualaykum wbt. Ingat tak Perak Man? Air terjun ? Ada! Tetapi sis tak pergi lah, tak larat nak mendaki haha Harga penginapan di S

Poem: If I May

Title: If I May Theme: Spiritual Reminder   If I may, I need you to tell me, That the world is temporary, And less people are wary, About the end that they will carry.   If I may, Remind me, please, Whether in hardship or ease, And no matter what I’ve seized, It’s only Him I have to please.   If I may, Give me a guarantee, For all the ambiguities, And for all the uncertainties, He’s always here, providing clarities.      If I may, Let it be known, For happiness to be owned, Live simply do not moan, And that’s the biggest don’t.   If I may, Help my thought to mend, That failure is not the end, Put trust in His hand, For I’ll be guided till the very end. - Muneera, 21st June 2018

“Kakak nak sembahyang?,” tanya dia. “Dak, kak nak tunggu masuk waktu Asaq dulu”, jawab saya dengan senyuman. “Kamu buat apa sini?” tanya saya.  “Saya nak sembahyang”, katanya sambil menghadiahkan senyuman yang paling manis. Saya masuk ke ruangan sembahyang. Mengekorinya. Suis-suis lampu dan kipas dibuka satu persatu. Langsir dibetul-betulkan. Lagak AJK masjid. Saya pula sibuk mencari soket untuk mengecas telefon pintar saya. “Adik sorang ja ka?” tanya saya. “Ha sorang. Abang tak dak, abang dalam penjara kena t
